St. Christopher (St. Kitts)

St. Kitts was the first British colony, in 1623, in the Caribbean. After a lot of fighting with the French it settled as British in 1783. Today it is a fully independent country, along with Nevis. It has a population of about 50,000.

Mar 21st - Arrived in Basseterre, St. Kitts.  The town had some amazing buildings that have been restored.  The anchorage was dirty and noisy so we bunked down after the long sail, ready to move on in the morning.

Mar 22nd - After a quick trip ashore we weighed anchor and sailed a few miles down the coast to a beautiful anchorage, Whitehouse Bay.

Whitehouse Bay is a small bay, fringed by a stony beach, and no other boats, peaceful and beautiful.  The surrounding hills were very barren, a lot like Greece.  Just before sunset we were joined by Quietly, who had sailed from Statia.

We spent a day just relaxing, swimming and snorkelling here.  Discussing plans and organizing walks around the bay that never happened, choosing to swim and stay cool instead.

Mar 24th -  Raised the anchor at nine thirty and sailed in tandem to Nevis.

Drift over to Nevis...
