Mar 18th - 6: 30pm: Anchored in Oranje Bay after a motor sail from Saba, and put out a stern anchor for the first time so that we keep our bow to the swell.
Mar 19th - 'Quietly' arrived from Marigot Bay in St. Martin and we went for a drink with them at The Old Gin House, a restored hotel, and chatted about life. Then went for a nosy round town, checking out the internet cafe, a converted container! Visiting Fort Oranje, and generally taking it all in. On our way back there we're cows walking down the street, an everyday occurrence in Statia! Our day ended with a beautiful sunset and some great photos of the boat.
Mar 20th - Woke up at 5am to hike up the Quill, a dormant volcano. Walked through town in first light, to get to the trail head and started our hike through Statia National Park. The hike zigzagged up the side of the volcano along a well-trodden path, taking us through dry woodland. As we made our way we saw soldier crabs ('kamikaze crabs', as named after Amanda), as well as goats and a red-bellied racer snake. We reached the edge of the crater at around 8am, with the sunlight peaking over the treetops. Unfortunately, the trail down into the crater was closed, so David and Tom scrambled up to the highest point of the volcano, Panorama Point.

This way back to town.
Downhill all the way back.
Mar 21st - Raised anchor and left Statia behind us as we sailed 25 miles to St. Kitts.
